Welcome to my personal NAMIWalks fundraising page.  I am walking with NAMI because the work they do is very important to me. NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness.

This year, two people I knew took their lives by suicide.  Awareness and education on mental illness seem even more important to me.  I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder in 1994 and with generalized anxiety later.  I have been under the care of a psychiatrist and psychologist since then and on a variety of medications.  Most of that time has been in the depressed state, but I have been fortunate to only have had occasional thoughts of death. Many people with bipolar 1 attempt suicide.  I have always been graced with the hope that no matter how lousy today feels, tomorrow may be better.  My mood has been good the last few years, but I am still troubled by fatigue.

Donating to NAMI through my page is easy, fast and secure. Your donation will make a difference and help people and families affected by mental illness right here in our region. Thank you for your support!

Competition is not really part of the walk event, but in the last two years some really generous supporters have sponsored me for the walk.  Last year I thought I had best individual fundraiser in the bag, but another walker, who did not use the web pages, came in the day of the walk with a bag of cash and checks and topped us.  It was great for NAMI and that walker, but tough on my easily bruised ego.  So we can not get to confident this year, and keep up your great support!!
