NAMI Gwinnett has committed to raise $20,000 to help break down the wall of stigma that can often separate us from those living with these debilitating illnesses. NAMI provides programs like the Peer-to-Peer education course, a 9 week course on the topic of recovery. Your donation will provide NAMI with the means to help people suffering with mental illness recognize what recovery looks like. There are also programs available for care givers. When mental illness presents itself, those who live with someone suffering from mental illness are often unprepared. Their lives are turned upside down. The Family-to-Family education course is a 12 week program that explains mental illness, teaching people how to care for themselves and provide the best possible care for thier loved ones. Additionally, there are support groups that meet on a regular basis creating a safe enviroment to share what is going on in thier lives. All of this is available without cost to the participants.
There are so many wonderful things NAMI does to address mental illness in our communities. We need NAMI to continue to help people who struggle every day to get out of bed and face a world that often rushes by them with hardly a glance. Some days they are literally fighting for their lives. Most of the time they are fighting for a chance to live life with dignity and respect. Please help us tear down the wall and break the stigma of mental illness by sharing your support.
