Join my dog Max and me as we raise awareness and funds through NAMIWalks Maryland, the signature walkathon event of the National Alliance on Mental Illness that will be held in Baltimore, MD at Inner Harbor on June 1, 2019. The number of people connecting with NAMI Maryland is increasing exponentially! Help us help them! And thanks to all of you who make the world a better place with each small step and each long jump.
My personal connection to NAMI: As some of you know, my younger sister has struggled with schizophrenia for more than 50 years, since she was 11 and I was 13. My sister has bravely worked to live in the community and to move forward. My family has worked hard to support Vicky, but it is not always easy. My parents moved to Maryland 40 years ago to get cutting edge treatment for Vicky from the National Institute of Mental Health. They were lucky enough to hear about a new group that became NAMI. Since then, NAMI in Maryland has provided support, education and advocacy for my family and helped my sister. When I moved to Maryland I became involved in NAMI Maryland (and my local affiliate) to pay it forward. I have served as Board member and/or program and outreach volunteer and/or Executive Director (at the state and/or the local level.)
Please walk with me (virtually or in person) and/or donate to support the free programs NAMI Maryland makes possible. NAMIWalks helps fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness, build awareness of the fact that the mental health system in this country needs to be improved and to raise funds for the free education, support and advocacy that NAMI provides.
NAMI is a 501(c)3 charity and any donation you make to support my participation in this event is tax deductible. Thank you in advance for your support.
