Thank you, Gary Stern.

In honor of Gary Stern's life and contributions to NAMI Rochester and the NAMIWalks, some of our supporters have chosen to donate in his memory.  Please find these tributes below.  If you would like to share a memory of Gary to be included on this page, please e-mail Kristina at the email address below in the event details.

A message from NAMI Rochester Executive Director Pat Sine...

The Rochester community lost a great advocate for individuals and families affected by mental illness in November 2016. Gary Stern was well known as a successful business entrepreneur, but not everyone knows about his dedication, passion, and generous financial support to the National Alliance On Mental Illness Rochester. In addition, he supported many other organizations and special events that have raised awareness and education about mental illness in our community for the last decade.

Gary Stern and his wife, Marcia, initiated, promoted and generously supported the annual NAMIWalks Rochester, now in its 5th year at Village Gate Square. His vision was to make a profound and positive difference in the way the general public views individuals and their families living with mental illness. His fervent wish was that mental illness be viewed as a physical illness of the brain and not a weakness of character, a lack of faith, or the fault of anyone, including the individual or the family.

Lynn and I respectfully donate these funds in loving memory of Gary Stern. NAMI meant so much to him and Marcia and, although we are not able to attend the walk, we wanted this donation to show our love to the Stern family and all the good work they have done throughout the years. Gary meant so much to the both of us and we miss him.  - Lynn & Gary Bonnemere

The Fifth Annual NAMIWalks Rochester

We are thrilled that this is our fifth year having this event here in Rochester.  Through the generosity of Gary & Marcia Stern, the walk was brought to Rochester, and we are determined to make this year's event the biggest yet!  Please use this website as a tool to get registered, recruit team members and raise funds to support the programs and support offerings NAMI Rochester delivers to the community. Together we can end the stigma surrounding mental illness, and improve the lives of those living with an illness and their families.
