In 2020, we celebrate 18 years of NAMIWalks, the nation's largest series of mental health awareness and fundraising events. Normally, we would have a free, fun, family-friendly walk with the 115+ other community walks around the country. But, NAMIWalks is going to be a little different this year. We're not canceling it - we wouldn't think of it when our collective mental health needs are at their greatest. NAMI Vermont's programs and advocacy are needed more than ever, and with your help, we are pleased to present a walk for our times: 

NAMIWalks Your Way Vermont: A Virtual Event on October 3.

What is NAMIWalks Your Way?

on October 3, NAMIWalks will be a virtual experience and joined by NAMIWalks across the country. In the month leading up to the event, we'll over daily activities for you to enjoy - recipes, inspirational messages, crafts, self-care tips. Then on October 3, you get to make NAMIWalks all your own! That's right - Your Way! Take a 5K walk through your neighborhood, around your backyard or on a treadmill. Or do something else meaningful and fun to celebrate our virtual walk day.

What participants are doing on event day:
  • Walking 3,500 steps for a "5K My Way"
  • Working in the garden
  • Planning a craft day with kids or grandkids
  • Holding a virtual bake-off with their team
  • Practicing self-care with a favorite hobby: yoga, gardening, knitting
  • Taking a bike ride
  • Cozying up with a new book
  • Playing virtual bingo or Pictionary with their team through Zoom

Take photos and videos and share your activity on a favorite social media with the link to your walk fundraising page and the hashtag #NotAlone and #MentalHealthforAll. Together we can make a difference for people affected by mental illness or a mental health condition - Mental Health for All.

However you participate in NAMIWalks, you will be joining NAMI's national movement. The only limit of NAMIWalks Your Way is the reach of your imagination and the breadth of your compassion. Share your ideas with us!

Did Someone Say CAR PARADE?

We did! We have received permission to hold a car parade around downtown Burlington. We're inviting you to join us to honk our horns, wave our signs and make a little noise for mental health! We'll gather together at noon to decorate cars and kick off the parade at 1 pm. 

Health and safety guidelines will be followed and we do ask that you not attend if you are sick, have a fever or cough, or have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. We also are limiting the parade to 25 cars, so if you want to join us, please register you and your vehicle today!

 

Time for Virtual Fun!

Let's have some fun in this final month as we lead up to our big NAMIWalks Your Way event on October 3. Each day from September 1 to October 3, we'll offer a fun virtual activity for you to try out. These inspiring ideas to boost your spirit, mind and body includ mindful and self-care activities, delicious fall recipes to try, fun crafts to attempt, physical activities to get your heart pumping and spirit soaring, and exercises for a stronger mind!

Check back each day for a new activity. We'll also include little facts about NAMI Vermont for you to share with people as you continue to fundraise for our NAMIWalks Your Way Virtual Event on October 3!
