I am walking with the Friends of NAMI NC Walk Team this year because the work of NAMI NC has been of critical importance to me and to the many families like mine whose lives have been and continue to be affected by mental illness. My work with NAMI was initially on behalf of my brother, Kenneth, whose phenomenal talent as a trumpet player, legendary in his high school and college years, was cut short by the onset of severe schizophrenia. NAMI programs and supports were a lifeline to me and to my family. NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness, and I am committed to supporting our state organization in implementing NAMI programs and supports.
Did you know that :
NAMI provides support, education, and advocacy to hundreds of thousands of families, individuals, educators, mental health service providers, and law enforcement professionals each year. NAMI North Carolina, our state chapter, provides training that allows our local affiliates to provide NAMI's signature programs in local communities. NAMIWalks helps us continue to provide these programs at no cost to the community.
Donating to NAMI through my page is easy, fast and secure. Your donation will make a difference and help people and families affected by mental illness right here in our region.
