It's time again for our annual NAMIWalk/Silicon Valley fundraiser walk for mental illness. This year I'm captain of a new team, "Never Walk Alone". I've joined the NAMI Board of Directors and my focus has shifted toward building collaborative relationships with service providers, corporations, and schools to be a stronger voice for change in our community and in the nation. Together we can be more effective in meeting the growing need to help individuals and families faced with mental health challenges.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness was started right here in San Mateo County in 1979 and has grown to be the Nation’s Voice on Mental Illness with a home office in Fairfax VA. The money from this event goes directly to the NAMI San Mateo County and Santa Clara County chapters for:
Associated costs for maintaining, training & educating staff, volunteers, families and individuals living with mental illnesses.
Generating and disseminating information on new research, treatments, and legislation affecting people and families with mental illnesses.
Coordinating with hospitals, treatment facilities, agencies, legislators, volunteers and the general public to get appropriate services to people, to address the myths and stigma associated with mental illness, and advocate for parity in insurance benefits and medical care.
Please walk with us on September 22nd or be a "virtual walker" by donating to this event. (Click on "Support Me" above). Any amount large or small (we love $10.00 gifts!) will help us make a huge difference in bringing about the changes we need to help our loved ones achieve their hopes and dreams. Recovery is possible, and, for many, it's getting closer every day.
