Thank you for taking the time to visit my personal NAMIWalks fundraising page.  Later this spring I will be walking with my NAMI-Skagit team because the work they do has been life changing for our family. They were a support system when our family was in crisis and now I am happy to be able to pay them back by being part of the movement to raise awareness of mental health issues.

NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness.

I am PROUDLY walking in honor of my son, Ben, who is one of the 6.9% of American Adults (16 million) battling major depression as well as one of the 18.1% of American Adults (42 million) fighting an anxiety disorder. He is the bravest person I know and he is one of my heroes. His younger brother, Alex, is my other one.

Ben fights for his life against these diseases more often than any person ever should. But he is not alone, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in people ages between 10-24 and the 10th in adults (90% of those who die by suicide have a mental illness).

I am PROUDLY walking in service of all the other moms who now use words like mental health issues, suicide, hospitalization, and chronic illness in the same breath as their children's names and who are still in crisis.

I am PROUDLY walking to raise awareness to overcome the sigma around mental illnesses.

I am PROUDLY walking in order to raise funds for the signature programs that NAMI- Skagit offers in my community, such as its Family to Family &  Peer to Peer classes as well as their monthly education nights, and variety of support groups around the area.

The funds that NAMI -Skagit receives from this NAMIWalks -Washington pays for volunteers to become trained teachers and facilitators for this programs (I will be co teaching the Family to Family Class this fall and have just been asked to take the training to be a Family Support Group Leader, so thank you) as well as supplies and marketing for these programs.

Please consider making a donation my fundraising efforts for the 2018 NAMIWalks Washington
