Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where is the Walk located?: Located on Soldiers Field Road, along the Charles River (across from WBZ-TV/Radio).
  • Is there parking?: Parking is available at the park. As soon as our main lot fills up, you will be directed to satelite parking lots. A shuttle service will be available to take you back to the park. Handicap parking is available.
  • How do I get there via public transportation?: Shuttle service available from the Central Square T-Stop directly to Artesani Park starting from 8:20am. It will run approximately every 20 minutes until 11:00am. Shuttle service back to Central Square will resume at 12:30pm. The last shuttle will leave Artesani Park at 1:45pm.   • : Artesani Park is a little more than a mile away from the Harvard Square T-Stop. The MBTA provides some bus service from the Harvard Square T-Stop on the Red line. Buses stop at the corner of Western Ave and Everett St (382 Western Ave). Then Walk towards the Days Inn Hotel and through the parking lot to Soldiers Field Road. Artesani Park is across the street over the foot bridge. Check the weekend T service at their website www.mbta.com or, call the MBTA at 617 222 3200.
  • What should I bring?: A rain jacket, comfortable shoes (or rain boots), sun screen, hat, and umbrella (if it looks like rain) – we walk rain or shine!
  • Are dogs allowed at the Walk?: YES! We are a dog-friendly event. Please make sure that your dog is on a leash at all times. Note that dogs are not allowed on the shuttle buses.
  • What if I'm not registed online? That’s okay! Use the registration line and complete the paperwork on Walk Day – we only need your name, address and signature.
  • Can I donate cash or checks at the Walk? Definitely! Just turn it in when you register/check-in! Checks can be written to NAMIWalks Massachusetts or NAMI Mass. We will also have a card reader available at registration if you would like to donate that way.

  • What should I do if it rains?: We Walk rain or shine! Bring your umbrellas and raincoats. Please be aware that the park may get muddy and slippery as well.
  • I am an artisan/exhibitor, can I bring my own table and chairs?: Artisans and local NAMI chapters receive tables free of charge. Sponsors over $1000 get a table as well. You can only have a table if you have already reserved one No exceptions!

 

  • General Information for All Volunteers
    • When you arrive, please check-in with Volunteer Coordinator at the Volunteer/Information Table.
    • You must bring your cell phone and provide the Volunteer Coordinator with your cell phone number. If you do not have a cell phone, please find a volunteer-buddy who has one.
    • Parking is first-come, first-serve. If the spots in our parking lot are filled, you will be directed to a satellite lot, which may require you to take a shuttle bus.
    • Coffee/donuts will be available for volunteers at the Volunteer/Info Table starting at around 7:00 AM.
    • Lunch will be available for volunteers at the Volunteer/Information Table around 11:30 AM.
    • If someone is in need of medical assistance call the nurse. Polly Egan at 508-404-9796
    • If someone is unable to move, unresponsive (not responding to any questions or gentle shaking), or is very confused (do not know who or where they are or why they are there) call 911.
    • If someone is in need of a ride back to the parking lot, flag down one of the two lag wagons (vans with a NAMI logo in the window).
    • All volunteer roles are subject to change.
